Get your ducks in a row for the Buffalo Rotary Duck Derby fundraiser on Sunday, August 27, 2017. Feathered festivities start at 11:30 a.m. – enjoy our area’s great food trucks, cool off at the beverage tent, check out the family activities, balloons, prizes and more!
The highly-trained rubber ducks will “launch” from The Blue Line Bridge at The Canals @Canalside in Buffalo and race to the end of the canal!
How much do ducks cost?
Your donation to the Buffalo Rotary Duck Derby allows you to adopt a duck. The cost is $5 for one duck. You can adopt as many ducks as you like! (1 duck/$5 • 6 ducks/$25 • 12 ducks/$50 • 25 ducks/$100)

Can I adopt a duck on DUCK DERBY day?
Yes, you can adopt a duck on race day. The Rotary Club of Buffalo will have a tent at Canalside selling ducks.
How do I know which one is my duck?
For each duck you sponsor you’ll receive a unique number that corresponds to the number attached to a highly-trained, race ready rubber duck.
You will receive an email from Buffalo Rotary confirming YOUR lucky duck's number!
Do I get a duck or get to keep one?
No. Your sponsorship will allow you to cheer on your duck to the finish line, but the Rotary Club of Buffalo knows that birds of a feather flock together – and we don’t want the lil’ ones to get lonely – so we’ll be keeping them in our official rubber duck sanctuary.
Do I need to be at Canalside to win?
No, but you’ll be missing out on all the Buffalo Rotary Duck Derby feathered festivities AND it’s free to attend!
How will I know if my duck wins?
The person whose number matches the first duck to reach the end of the canal will win $250; second will win $125; and the third will win $75.
What are the deadlines?

1.) The Rotary Club of Buffalo “BUFFALO Rotary Duck Derby” is conducted by the Buffalo Rotary Foundation, Inc. a charitable organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, for the benefit of Western New York and Buffalo, NY non-profit organizations, primarily for the benefit of projects and programs serving the community.
2.) All ducks entered are and shall remain property of the Rotary Club of Buffalo. Only official Buffalo Rotary racing ducks are eligible for prizes.
3.) Once the ducks are launched, they are on their own. No attempt to free or interfere with any duck is permitted, unless deemed necessary by the race committee.
4.) Chance of winning depends on the total number of entries. A number will be written on the bottom of each duck which relates to the number on the entry form. The person’s name appearing on the entry forms corresponding to the first ducks in order of finish will be awarded prizes (first, second, and third). The winning ducks will be announced at the conclusion of the event. Individuals who submitted the winning entries are not required to be present and will be notified by telephone or mail. If a winner does not come forward to claim the prize won within 30 days following the race, that prize will be forfeited and the Rotary Club of Buffalo will declare another winner for that prize.
5.) Entries received after 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2017 and entries purchased on “BUFFALO Rotary Duck Derby” day – Sunday, August 27, 2017 – are subject to the availability of ducks. In the event the number of entries exceeds the available number of ducks, these entrants will not be eligible to win any prizes. The Rotary Club of Buffalo cannot guarantee that any entry received after these deadlines will be eligible to win any prizes.
6.) By entering, the entrants release the Rotary Club of Buffalo, its officers, directors, volunteers, staff and other related entities from any and all liability with respect to the prizes.
7.) By entering, winners consent to the promotional use of their names and likenesses without any additional compensation.
8.) The entry donation is $5 per duck; individuals can enter more than once or purchase multiple ducks.
9.) Rotary Club of Buffalo is not responsible for entries lost in the mail. Mailed entries ONLY must be received by Rotary Club of Buffalo by Thursday, August 23, 2017. Mailed entries only: must be mailed to Rotary Club of Buffalo, 701 Seneca Street, Suite #218, Buffalo NY 14210.
10.) Rotary Club of Buffalo reserves the right in its discretion to cancel, postpone or reschedule the event due to inclement weather, acts of God or other circumstances beyond Rotary Club of Buffalo’s reasonable control.
